General Collection Guidelines
All materials must be
placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your designated collection day.
Materials not at the curb when collection vehicles pass, will not be
picked up that week. Residents should place trash and yard waste on one
side of their driveway and recyclables on the other side so that
collection crews can properly identify and pick up materials
efficiently.
Trash, recycling and
yard waste will not be collected on the following holidays: New Year’s
Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and
Christmas Day. Holidays that fall on a weekday cause a one-day delay
for that day and each regular service day thereafter in the week of the
holiday. If a holiday falls on a weekend, no delay in service will
occur.
Trash Collection Services
Trash collection occurs
every Tuesday in the City of Zilwaukee. Residents may set out an
unlimited number of bags or cans of household trash and 2 bulky items
each week. All trash must be securely contained in bags or trashcans no
larger than 33-gallons. Each bag or trashcan must weigh less than 50
pounds.
Bulky Items: Any item that
exceeds 50 pounds or does not fit into a standard 33-gallon bag or
trashcan is considered a bulky item. Examples include furniture,
mattresses and appliances. Collection crews will tag bulky items
for collection at a later time – do not remove tagged items from the
curb.
Carpet:
Carpet must be cut into 4-foot wide pieces and tied into rolls.
Each roll must not weigh more than 50 pounds.
Commercial
Garbage Hauling:
Items such as auto parts, intact garage doors, landscape timbers,
building materials, assembled swing sets and picnic tables are
NOT included in the regular curbside trash collection program.
Contact a commercial garbage hauler for removal, listed under
“Rubbish” in the yellow pages of your phone directory.
